Just my opinion...

Hello out there, does anyone else feel my pain?  Three days into Christmas vacation and I'm ready to pull my hair out.  Whoever decided to let kids out a week BEFORE Christmas should be shot.  They obviously never had a house full of kids waiting for the big day to come.  Some might argue that it gives us time to get ready.  I'm not entirely sure how grocery shopping is more effective with 4 people tugging my arm and begging for candy.

Couldn't there be public opinion polls on school holidays?  Wouldn't they be interested to know how the parents feel?  What days we'd like to have our kidlets around?  I think it would be a whole lot more fun to have them two week after Christmas, once the toys are opened and new, exciting things can help with the entertaining.

I suppose it's my own fault really.  It's gloomy and wet here, so I have not dragged them outside enough.  The malls etc. are INSANE and the idea of even setting foot near one, let alone with my children, is enough to give me a panic attack.  Also, I am totally not willing nor in the position to spend a lot of money on the commercialized activities available throughout town.  So what else to do?  Well, the usual winter indoor activities.  Plus a lot of crowd control.

Mediating.
Cease fires.
Making food - over and over and over.
Cleaning (it's like shovelling in a snow storm aroud here!).
Time outs abound.

Oh well.  Three more days....maybe there will still be someone alive to enjoy the big day.

  1. I got lucky and my kids had school til Tuesday this week. Had my last three hours of bliss Tuesday morning (they were both done at 1145)and it was beautiful. Still doesn't make the first day off any better for fighting/arguing/tattling and so forth! Raeley and Cason are sick today and it almost made me happy! only because Raeley actually sat on the couch all morning and Cason is sleeping a lot

  2. You are lucky! Is it terrible to occasionally be glad you have a sick child? Not that you're glad their ill, but glad they are docile? LOL.

  4. Sounds like our week too! Greg worked right up until Christmas Eve and I was pulling my hair out. Then, Ella got strep. What's Christmas without a sick kid and a trip to the ER because the drs. office was closed. Ugh. Glad this year is over.
2010 don't let the door hit you on the way out.
